The first fashion week of the coming fashion marathon is done.
Thursday was the last day of the New York Fashion Week that took place in Bryant Park from 11 'til 18 February.
Most prominent trend in NY is the multitude of fur.
Dennis Basso used a lot of fur in his clothes, every design he created lend something of a racoon,fox, mink or other animal.
We saw a lot of leather this season on the catwalk, like last spring/summer 2010.
Alexander Wang showed dresses, skirts, pants and on-trend cycling shorts made of leather. Frank Tell en Jeremy Laing showed coloured leather in their collection and Proenza Schouler made the rough leatherlook feminine with pleated skirts and balconette dresses constructed from shiny, black leather.

Multiple designers decorated their designs with fringe just as last.
The 70's ar coming back with long lean shapes.
Cynthia Rowley played with coloured fringe from broad strips of fabric on dresses, tops and skirts.
Derek Lam showed country/western fringe designs and the sisters Mulleavy had a fringe factor in the Rodarte collectie with wool fringe on the designs.

Other then leather and fur, velvet dominated in NY.
Alexander Wang has velvet in his collection, Donna Karan showd a beautiful blue velvet coat, Malandrino used velvet in eveninggowns and Erin Fetherston showed that velvet can be done in daywear too. At Zac Posen we saw classic red velvet. Marc Jacobs who got praised by the fashion pack for his collection used a multitude of velvet in his designs.

The schoolgirl look inspired many many designers for coming fall.
We saw knee stockings strutting down the runway at Alexander Wang, L.A.M.B, Generra and at Erin Wasson x RCVA.
Marc by Marc Jacobs showed pleated skirts and checkered dresses.
Proenza Schouler showed buttoned-up blouses and satchels.
